The villa has recently been converted into 21 beautiful suites and apartments which combine modern comforts with the original atmosphere of the ancient country mansion. The apartments retain original features such as wooden ceiling beams terracotta floors and sumptuous furnishings. The apartments are equipped for self-catering with However the villa also boasts a private restaurant set in what was once the Orangery and overlooking the Italian Garden while the panoramic main terrace offers a wine bar for snacks and drinks. The San Filippo estate produces its own high quality wine and organic olive oil and the chef is proud to use these ingredients in his genuine old recipes. Guests have the opportunity to taste and purchase oil wine and home made conserves in the Cantinetta which originally housed the huge millstones of the old olive press. Guests can self-cater but guests can also take a buffet breakfast in the breakfast hall light lunches and snacks on the terrace and dinner in the elegant restaurant with its 360 degree views of the surrounding Chianti hills. Set into the lower terraces below the villa are 3 swimming pools which cascade down the hillside into each other in a waterfall effect and creating the impression that you can swim out into the surrounding landscape and the whole villa is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens. If you can tear yourself away from this beautiful setting the location of Villa San Filippo almost mid-way between Florence and Siena and in the heart of Chianti makes it a perfect base for touring. Florence and Siena are both within a half hour drive and the historic centres of San Gimignano Pienza and Montalcino are all within an hour?s drive. Next door to San Filippo is a horse riding school which offers gentle hacks along the Chianti pathways to picturesque villages which can also be reached by energetic walkers.
